Message from the Dean

THE DEAN’S MESSAGE

As we engage in theological education, let us remember that this work involves both spiritual formation and active participation. May we be inspired by the words of the prophet Micah:
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God”
(Micah 6:8)

It is our responsibility to continue this legacy of faith, drawing from the rich history of our ancestors who have carried the torch of Christianity through centuries of struggle and triumph. We are called to embody a faith that is both deeply rooted in our cultural heritage and authentically engaged with the world around us.

In today’s world, we cannot ignore the cries of those who suffer under injustice. Whether it is systemic racism, economic inequality, gender-based violence, or the exploitation of the earth’s resources, the call of the gospel is clear: we are to stand against these forces and work toward a more just and compassionate world.

At this seminary, we believe that theological education is not just about knowledge but about action—action rooted in the values of love, justice, and peace that Jesus modeled.

We are called to be agents of change, to challenge the status quo, and to transform our communities through the power of the Holy Spirit.

As a community of theological scholars, let use our unique cultural perspective to bear witness to the love and justice of God in a world that is crying out for healing and transformation. As we advance in our studies and ministry, let us honor the rich legacy that is The Morehouse School of Religion!
